Synopsis

This is Santiago Veros’ best-selling piece.
Performed worldwide, it has been selected by renowned choirs such as The Sunday Night Singers, conducted by Mike McCullough, and the prestigious Bob Cole Chamber Choir under the direction of Jonathan Talberg. Additionally, it was chosen by MusicSpoke as one of the 10 most important works in its catalog in 2023.

“Galaxias” is a piece that celebrates human interconnection and mutual support.
Born from a commission by luminous people who provided warmth to the composer during his recovery from a serious health setback, this piece symbolizes how we are all stars—both illuminating and being illuminated by those around us. Through its music, Veros invites us to reflect on the adventure of mutual support and how our loved ones, in any plane of existence, create and guide our path with a light far greater than we can perceive.

The work has been performed by various choirs worldwide. Its world premiere took place in 2021 by The Cantabile Singers in Nova Scotia, Canada, under the direction of Chris Bowman.
Later, King’s Chorale, conducted by Bill Perrot, also in Nova Scotia, performed the piece.
In the United States, it has been sung by the NIU Chamber Choir during Santiago Veros’ visit, and more recently, Lawrence University Concert Choir recorded the piece under the composer’s own direction. Additionally, the Organum Leuven choir from Belgium has included Galaxias in its repertoire, further demonstrating the international reach of the piece.

With an approximate duration of 4 minutes and 45 seconds, Galaxias is written for SATB divisi choir, piano, and crystal glasses. This piece has resonated with audiences worldwide, establishing itself as an essential work in contemporary choral repertoire.

LYRICS

And the shadow of twilight fades
when the light of the ancestors
forms a mantle that protects and guides us.

A being illuminating the galaxies
The certainty on the shipwrecked path
The glint of existence, time and distance.

The ancient aurora of golden light
at the awakening of the dawn
the eyes radiant with certainties
condensed into rays of light.

The eternal radiance of the soul:
an instant of infinite distances
and the birth of a million dawns.
