Senderos a consortium
Sinopsis

In this piece I want to tell the experience of being the son of one of the bravest mothers in the world. A strong mother who sacrificed herself so that her children have a chance in the world.

“Senderos”(walkways) will be a musical composition that explores the themes of family, love, and long-term vision. Inspired by personal experiences, the piece tells a story of a young child’s journey through challenging times, where they learn the importance of perseverance and the power of family support.

With evocative melodies and poignant harmonies, “Senderos” celebrates the enduring bonds of family and the profound lessons that can be learned along life’s journey. Through the music, audiences are invited to reflect on their own relationships and the value of cherishing the path we walk with our loved ones.

Birth of the idea

The musical idea to write “Senderos” (walkways) was born  from a personal reflection in 2020 about my family and the people who surrounded me. This project presents itself as a significant addition to the concert program of any choir wishing to pay tribute to someone important. Over the years, I have greatly valued the opportunities my family has provided me and consider myself lucky to have them. That is why I feel the need to create a work centered on the family, on blood ties and on the redefinition of those ties. “Senderos” tells the journey of these eternal and powerful links, and seeks to convey deep emotions through music.

The piece seeks to narrate a fragment of life that reflects courage, pure love and the commitment to provide without limits. His goal is to define the word “love” in an epic way. The fragment that I wish to relate in this work is located in my childhood, when I was between 7 and 12 years old. There is an image that I will never forget: I remember a family reunion with my mother, recently separated. I was 7 years old and my brother was 8. That Sunday we sat around the round table and she said “Guys, there are 10 dollars left until the end of the month. These are the options. What do you want us to do?”

Shortly thereafter, my mother started working three different jobs, which meant she had to travel a lot. This led to my brother and I developing a more intense relationship, where keeping the house running became one of our responsibilities. Fortunately, we were close to my aunt, who was our neighbor, and Elizabet Ponce de León, who was in charge of cleaning and resolving some sibling disputes while my mother was away.

As a child, I was affected by my mother’s absence and did not fully understand the plan behind her. I only saw that she saw little of her and that she was focused solely on work. It was difficult for me to go beyond the immediate present. It wasn’t until I was 14 that I understood the plan she had for us. That’s when I started to see my mother as the superhero that she is. She dropped everything to get us out of a difficult situation, gave us the opportunity to attend the best schools, and ensured our college education. She even managed to save to buy the cabins that she manages today and leave a large inheritance. It was then that I understood the value of thinking long term, of overcoming everything to provide a better future for those you love. This lesson completely changed my way of seeing life.

Today, I have the ability to create long-term projects because I know that everything I build today will bring happiness. It’s just a matter of time. In an age where we have been taught that everything must be immediate, we often forget the importance of enjoying the walkway and having the company of those we love. The goal is only a point of arrival that sooner or later we will reach, but what is truly valuable is found on the path. “Senderos” is presented as a celebration of this teaching, of those people who make up my family, and of the art of building using time and patience. That is why I choose to use the path as a musical metaphor, since the true lesson is found in the process, not in the goal.

TRANSLATION

“Eternal and united paths,

by storms that beat our blood

plowing through lakes, rivers and mountains.

And in perpetual motion:

The air sculpting the crystals,

sand of time

that runs towards a thousand horizons,

sparkles and wonders.

Lattice of souls,

stars in the ethereal mantle of the encounter.

Wish

whisper creator of the universe

greening meadows,

blooming bonds and sowing

The Union;

shine of all existence

like a thousand dancing mountains,

like deep mirrors in the eyes,

The eternal collision of souls

creating perpetual trails!

In union!”
